Context & Work environment

Decathlon’s purpose is to ‘Move people through the wonders of sport’. We need to develop our operations in line our ambitions towards such a model that it benefits People, Planet and Profit.

300 teammates are working in Tilburg within several (multicultural) teams. Such as logistics, circular center, e-logistics, etc. With a lot of different expertises and (Decathlon) experiences.

Since the beginning sustainability (duurzaamheid) is part of our logistics project, as we:

  • Decided the location to optimize our transport
  • The warehouse is a BREEAM Excellent construction on a brownfield re-development area
  • The warehouse is at biking distance from the city center of Tilburg
  • Implemented a low consumption automated system (robots) & are generating more than our needs with our solar panels 

Your job

As a Sustainability Development Leader for logistics & transport, you lead for the coming years the process of co-creating and rolling out our local sustainability action plan aligned with the country’s strategy, legal requirements and internal/external best practices. You will connect the key stakeholders from logistics, the stores, the service center, e-logistics, and Second Life and work in close contact with key players to achieve our sustainability & CO2 reduction goals. You will be having people, planet and profit related KPIs where you make sure the sustainability goals are clear for our team mates and clear actions will be taken. Furthermore you will define & manage the local ‘planet’ score assessment.

WORKING MODE

Strategical : Inspire & influence (detect & suggest solutions)

Detect any relevant innovation for our logistics activities related to sustainability and work in close contact with the leading logistics team. You will inspire the team and bring concrete projects to be implemented.

Logistics plays a pivotal role in the transformation towards a more circular business model. You will be an important part of this broader transformation and connect all different stakeholders around the same purpose.

Tactical : optimize the operations (project based)

You will work in close collaboration with key stakeholders on optimizing our CO2 emission :

  • Sustainability expert: You will compute our CO2 emission trajectories & functionally manage it across logistics
  • Safety & Maintenance leader: You’ll optimize the waste & energy management
  • Transport managers: You’ll help our customers to make more conscious choices & find more sustainable delivery solutions (B2C & B2B)
  • Operational teams: You’ll optimize the consumables we use, enhance innovative projects striving for CO2-neutral delivery
  • Circular center & warehouse operational teams: You’ll find the best solutions for our (end of life) goods & waste steam and tend to a 0-waste purpose
  • HR team: You’ll manage the training for sustainability and increase sustainability awareness among our employees.

Operational : activate the awareness & involvement of our teammates

You will work with the logistics leading team to integrate sustainability thoroughly in every aspect of our operational activities. You’ll raise the awareness of our teams via training & local actions to activate them on sustainable initiatives.

“Planet” score Assessment

  • Create & manage the local score assessment grid
  • Co-define a CO2 reduction target aligned with the country strategy
  • Guarantee the data collection to follow quarterly the score assessment & the CO2 reduction
  • Share the project & performance progress via a regular reporting

  • Background :
          • Experience in sustainability, either in-store, service or logistics
          • Minimum 2 years of experience as a leader (project or team)
  • You speak English fluently
  • Speaking Dutch would be an advantage
